ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Complies with and supports all Shiprock Associated Schools' policies and procedures including all SASI curriculum, strategies, and guidelines related to COVID-19 and any unforeseen pandemic. Integrates the organizations' philosophy concepts and mission statement into the work area. Facilitate the ST and RTI system design to provide school sites with consultation, support and input in the process. (Academic and Behavior Support) Ensure accountability of the interdisciplinary School Assistance Teams at each school site to include the principal or his/her designee, counselor, general education teacher (s) or other appropriate staff members. Integrates the Dine bilingual and bicultural concepts for core subjects in accordance with Navajo Education Curriculum standards. Manages the educational setting in a manner that promotes positive student behavior and a safe and healthy environment. Work productively with colleagues, parents, students and community members. Recognizes student's diversity and creates an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept. Will work with the special education teacher(s) to design and implement a student's IEP of any special needs student assigned to the classroom. Demonstrates a willingness to examine and implement change as appropriate. Ensure strategies/interventions are documented on SAT plan, set necessary parent meetings and develop a designed intervention plan to meet the individual student's needs in the general education setting. Ensure each school SAT establishes timelines for interventions/strategies based on supporting data. Collaborate with other professionals for students suspected to have an educational disability. Interpret & analyze Reading & Math intervention data. Coordinating benchmark assessments and school wide assessments. Use data to make instructional decisions for students. Oversee that services are scheduled and provided by academic and behavior interventionists. Monitor student progress through the Response to Intervention (RTI) process. Protect the confidentiality of student educational records in accordance with FERPA. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law. Deliver special education services to students if requested by administrators. Provide teachers with strategies to enhance differentiated instructions for students in RTI. Participate in and conduct school sponsored in-service activities. Maintain a high personal standard of professional and ethical conduct. Serve as a role model to encourage faculty self-evaluation, professional growth, scholarship and effective training. Coach, mentor and counsel teachers, conveying information regarding plans, curriculum development and assessment, resources, facilities, and activities which affect them and to serve as a consultant to teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures. Monitors and reports to administration compliance and accountability measures. Comply with all School Board policies, administrative regulations, Bureau of Indian Education guidelines and local, state and federal laws. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with Native American students and parents. Parent Contacts-Participate in two parent conferences, two PAC meetings per year, family/parent night and other parent involvement activities. Student conferences will be utilized to discuss each student's achievement. In addition, initiates parent contact through notes, phone calls and, when appropriate, home visits. Attend staff and school meetings and activities. Responsible for own professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning. Use current technology for instruction and management purposes. Leave adequate preparations for a substitute teacher, when needed. Always conducts self in a professional manner for the safety and welfare of the students. Performs other duties as assigned, within your scope of practice. MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Five years' experience in an educational environment, coaching and administration preferred. Must be highly qualified according to New Mexico State Standards and regulations. Comprehensive knowledge of the New Mexico PED Academic Standards required. Knowledge of successful strategies for struggling or at-risk learners (academic and behavioral interventions). Knowledge of differentiated instruction and strategies. Education: Bachelor's New Degree or Higher from an Accredited College or University. Current New Mexico Level II Certified Teaching License, Level III preferred. Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications: Excellent customer service and interpersonal relationship skills. Specific vision is a requirement in these job duties, including distance and peripheral vision and depth perception capabilities. (do they need documentation?) Ability to organize and prioritize work and to meet deadlines. Must have or able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification and a Navajo Nation food handler's permit. Must pass federal background check required per 25 C.F.R. Part 63. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bilingual (Diné/English). Employee may require performing extensive work at a computer display terminal. May be required to break up fights. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students. The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids and waste while performing duties in life skills, multi-handicapped, and some one-on-one situations. The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students. Overnight travel may be required. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to: walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. May be required to stand for long periods. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions in the Governing School Board approved SASI policies and procedures. Mental Demands: There are several deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues. NAVAJO PREFERENCE SASI and its facilities are located within the Navajo Nation and, in accordance with Navajo Nation law, has implemented a Navajo Preference in Employment Policy. Pursuant to this Policy, applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for this position and who are enrolled members of the Navajo Nation will be given primary preference in hiring and employment for this position.
