The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. More than half the worlds population sees AP journalism every day. The Associated Press seeks an exceptional text editor with excellent news judgment to join its Sports desk in the U.S. The winning candidate will have excellent news judgment and have knowledge of a range of sports. This position will be based in any U.S. city with an AP bureau but will be involved in sports coverage from around the globe. This is a temporary staff position lasting through the end of 2024 and covered by AP's agreement with the News Media Guild. Responsibilities: This text editor will be part of a multi:format newsgathering and text editing team, managing content from dozens of reporters globally. You will edit and file content in a fast:paced environment to thousands of customer newsrooms and to millions of users of our direct:to:audience platforms. You will work closely with reporting teams to elevate their stories, fact:check their copy and ensure we have the best report on breaking sports news, game stories and enterprise. You will be eager to use metrics to help improve the way we tell stories and employ a range of tools to enhance our coverage of breaking news developments and trending topics, coordinating with Sports managers and other teams across the AP to ensure we cover all news competitively. Preferred Qualifications: We're looking for candidates who have experience covering sports and who are fast, creative editors able to turn their hand to spot news, game stories, features and enterprise. You will have a great news sense, and the ability to communicate across teams and formats. Applicants must be willing and able to work any shift, including nights and weekends, as AP is a 24/7 operation. Required Qualifications: :Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, such as full:time journalism or copy:editing experience at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.:All applicants must be able to work in the U.S. or be able to gain permission to do so.:Advanced:level professional competency in written and spoken English. Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.:Strong interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on complex, challenging story lines. The anticipated salary range for this position is 52,046.28 : 82,934.28 contingent on experience and other job:related factors. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan, employer:sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
