PRINCIPLE CHOICE HOME HEALTHCARE Behavioral Health LPN POSITION PURPOSE Under the supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health, A Behavioral Health Licensed Practical Nurse (BH LPN) is a clinician that works in the field of mental health and substance abuse. The BH LPN is responsible for the day-to-day nursing care of clients which may include helping their clients bathe, dress and eat; go to the bathroom; assist with daily exercise, medicine management, and initiating behavioral health protocols. They change bandages, dressings and catheters, and monitor and assess their clients' condition every day by taking vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and weight. The LPN monitors medication compliance and may fill medication dispensing devices A Behavioral Health LPN is a professional with a behavioral health background who plans and manages client care according to everyone’s needs and explains these clearly to the client and client’s family. ORGANIZATION This position reports to Director of Behavioral Health ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides basic nursing care and support to patients with mental health disorders, addiction, or co-occurring conditions. Administers prescribed medications and treatments and observes for any adverse reactions or side effects. Provides emotional support and encouragement to patients and their families. Educates patients and their families about their condition, treatment plan, and coping strategies. Recording the client’s history Taking vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and weight and record them in their file. Communicating professionally and therapeutically with clients, coworkers and others involved in the clients care in an effective manner. Entering information into computer systems and updating client records in a confidential manner Ensuring clients and families understand discharge instructions. Monitoring fluid/food intake and output Moving clients safely Observing and reporting client reactions to medications Observing and reporting client mental health status Providing emotional support to clients and their families Observing client for skin breakdown Maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of each client, including bathing, feeding and dressing Evaluating the client’s wellbeing, reporting any needs to medical staff Explaining treatments and procedures to clients and families Changing dressing and bandages, ensuring clients are healing properly. Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE High School Graduate, Accredited LPN school graduate. Current LPN licensure in Oklahoma. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred. 1-2 years recent Home Health LPN experience required. 2+ years of behavioral health experience required. Current Driver's License, vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation Active car insurance Medical knowledge, patience, compassion, kindness, critical thinking skills, knowledge of infection control practices, stamina, and physical endurance, observational skills, knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules, communication skills, leadership, empathy MACHINES & EQUIPMENT The incumbent must be able to effectively operate the current computer system, telephone system, and other office machines such as a copier. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work requires moderately heavy physical exertion on a regular and recurring basis such as: extensive driving, assisting client in transfer activities (wheelchair, to bed, to tub, to commode) and providing substantial support to individuals in ambulation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, to handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
