Job Description: Southern Utah University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS; https://www.suu.edu/caps/) is seeking a therapist to coordinate our new Mental Health After Hours program. This will be a full-time, benefited, 11-month position with evening hours and after-hour on-call rotations (on-call for a total of 10 weeks per year; the on-call therapist will be expected to receive occasional phone calls from university staff; for students the on-call service will be triaged by an external call center so students will not be calling the therapists directly). The positions can be worked in an 8-hour/5-day shift (1pm-10pm) or a 10-hour/4-day shift (11am-10pm). The therapist will be part of the counseling center team and after-hours offices will be located in the university's student counseling center. This position is open to all mental health disciplines. Current licensure in the State of Utah is required. Duties and Responsibilities: The Coordinator of After-hour Mental Health Services will be part of a three-person team with support from the SUU Student Housing office as well as the SUU Police Department. The coordinator will work closely with the CAPS Director to manage the operations of the after-hour services. Members of the after-hours team will provide a variety of services on weekdays. This will include clinical services such as individual therapy, group therapy, initial consultations (triage appointments), single-session therapy, and crisis support, as well as workshops and outreach presentations. They will also be available for consultation services for the university community. Between the hours of 5pm and 10pm, they will only provide brief urgent care appointments as needed to provide de-escalation and risk assessment along with some occasional outreach services. Therapists will take turns carrying an on-call phone during Fall and Spring Semesters. Clinicians will respond to occasional calls from university staff who may have student concerns or need support for a student. Direct calls from students will be triaged by an external crisis call center, and the on-call therapist will be contacted if on-site support is needed. Staff will not receive calls directly from students. During evening hours, on-site support will be provided by referring university staff including a Housing Community Coordinator or an officer of the Southern Utah University Police Department. If therapists are required to provide on-site support, they can be provided an opportunity for a flexed schedule. They will report to CAPS Director and are expected to fully participate in administrative functions of CAPS (e.g., weekly staff meetings).Main Duties: Clinical services (30%). Provide individual therapy, single-session therapy, assessment, initial consultation, intake, urgent care, and crisis interventions; and if interested, provide group therapy and/or biofeedback. Coordination of after-hour services (30%). Provide oversight for the after-hour services program; manage on-call rotation schedules for the team; provide back-up support to on-call team members; provide clinical supervision as needed. Create/revise protocols for after-hour services (15%). including establishing relationships with community providers and on-campus supports (i.e. hospitals, access centers, University Housing, Dean of Students office, etc.) Outreach services (10%). Prepare for and provide outreach presentations and workshops; provide consultations with University Housing staff (Resident Assistants, Community Coordinators, and other staff members), as well as other SUU faculty and staff. On-call services (10 weeks/year). Serve on on-call rotations to provide after-hour assistance, including on-site support for de-escalation and risk assessment; serve as the contact person for the external crisis service center. Other professional responsibilities (15%). Serve as a member of the CAPS leadership team; practice in accordance with ethical and professional standards and state laws; understand and comply with CAPS and university policies and procedures; timely and accurate record keeping; effectively participate in administrative and professional activities (e.g., CAPS staff and division meetings, case conferences, peer consultations, professional development, etc.); foster excellent working relationships with co-workers; increase knowledge and develop new skills or abilities that contribute to effective service provision; engage in program coordination tasks specific to the position; contribute to the evaluation and improvement of CAPS and all other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree or higher in a mental health discipline from an accredited program (e.g., social work, counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy). Clinical license to independently practice in the state of Utah (e.g., Psychologist, LCSW, CMHC, LMFT). Experience providing therapy to college age adults. Experience with crisis risk assessment. Generalist base of knowledge and experience in psychotherapy (including teletherapy), (i.e., theories, processes, and elements of therapeutic change) and familiarity with developmental and other non-medical models of treatment. Ability to report to SUU campus within 30 minutes while being on-call. Preferred Qualifications: Terminal degree in psychology or social work (clinical, counseling or combined clinical/counseling/MSW) from an accredited program. Ability to become credentialed as the Mental Health Officer to provide certification for a temporary involuntary hospitalization in Iron County, Utah. Skills, knowledge, and experience specifically focused on the needs of students of color, students from indigenous communities, LGBTQIA+ students, international students, students from diverse religious affiliations, students with disabilities, undocumented students, and/or first generation college students on a university campus. Experience in program coordination. Experience in supervision and training. Experience in providing psychoeducational workshops and outreach programming. Fluency in language other than English.
